Contamination of Our Potable Water Supplies: What Does the Future Hold?
Description
Emerging contaminants are becoming an increasing concern for drinking water systems worldwide. In this session, water quality industry expert Peter Cartwright, P.E., President of Cartwright Consulting Co., will examine the sources, prevalence, and implications of contaminants, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), and microplastics. He will reveal how these contaminants enter water supplies, the potential health and environmental impacts associated with long-term exposure, and the evolving regulatory landscape aimed at addressing these risks. Topics will also include current and emerging treatment technologies and mitigation strategies being developed to detect, remove, and manage these contaminants. Attendees will leave with a clearer perspective on the future challenges facing potable water systems and the role engineers, utilities, and building system designers will play in protecting water quality.
