Alane Dent is a nationally recognized advocate with over twenty years of experience spearheading legislative and communication strategies on behalf of her financial services clients.

Mrs. Dent currently serves as Vice-President, Corporate and Legislative Affairs, at CUNA Mutual Group, a financial services company that provides product and service solutions to credit unions and retail customers. She advocates before federal and state legislatures, regulatory authorities, trade associations, and stakeholder coalitions on behalf of the credit union industry. She takes great pride in facilitating a partnership with Inclusiv, a trade association representing Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), to educate credit unions about the benefits of CDFI certification and inform policymakers about the critical role of CDFIs in underserved communities.

Mrs. Dent previously founded and led Dent Strategies, a boutique government relations firm specializing in federal and state advocacy. The firm developed and implemented comprehensive legislative, coalition, and communications strategy. The firm also advised corporations and nonprofits on strategic planning initiatives designed to translate mission and values statements into action.

Prior to founding Dent Strategies, Mrs. Dent served as the Senior Vice-President for Federal Relations at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). In that role, she developed and implemented strategy for ACLI’s federal lobbying efforts with Congress and the Administration to achieve legislative and regulatory goals. She spearheaded the Diversity and Inclusion Initiative for the industry and oversaw and directed spending for ACLI’s PAC. Mrs. Dent joined ACLI as a Vice President in 2004. 

Prior to joining ACLI, she served as a Federal Affairs Director for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). Mrs. Dent has also served as Legislative Counsel to former U.S. Representative Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) and Legislative Analyst for the U.S. Social Security Administration, where she was hired and served as a Presidential Management Fellow.  

Mrs. Dent earned a B.A. in Political Science from Howard University and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. She recently completed the Corporate Social Responsibility Program at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

In addition to her active participation in numerous professional organizations, she enjoys volunteering her time to promote issues related to closing the racial wealth gap, ensuring retirement security for women, and mentoring college students.
