Cornelius Dupree was exonerated in 2011 for a rape and robbery in Dallas, Texas, that he did not commit. He served more than 30 years of his 75-year sentence. His case involved cross-racial misidentification. Upon his release, he went to community college and interned with Rodney Ellis, former Texas State Senator, and Chair of the Innocence Project Board. He was eventually compensated by state statute. For the 2018 Innocence Network Conference in Memphis, Mr. Dupree came up with the idea of a march to the Civil Rights Museum to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He has been a member of the Innocence Project's Exoneree Advisory Council since its inception in 2016 and a member of the Ambassador Program since its inception in 2022.
