Emily Heun Pate
Emily has served as a paralegal and investigator for MAIP since 2018. After earning a law degree, Emily worked as a judicial officer, setting bail and issuing warrants. She witnessed how the poor and communities of color are disproportionately impacted by crime and the criminal legal system. Now, Emily focuses on Baltimore cases, speaking with and listening to the wrongfully convicted, their families, witnesses and victims, amplifying those voices to advocate for exoneration. Emily has helped to exonerate multiple clients through MAIP's partnership with the City of Baltimore's Conviction Integrity Program, a project within the Office of the State's Attorney.
