Marilyn Mulero

Marilyn served nearly 29 years wrongfully before her sentence was commuted in 2020 by the Illinois governor. Two years later, she was exonerated as part of the first mass exoneration of murder cases in the US. Initially sentenced to death, Marilyn's first experience with alternative pathways to relief was via a resentencing hearing to life without parole. Marilyn filed several post-conviction petitions, sought clemency from various governors, and even submitted a petition to the UN. Marilyn is now heavily involved with organizations fighting mass incarceration and supporting loved ones through the pain of incarceration, including working with the Illinois Prison Project, Innocent Demand Justice, and Restore Justice.
