Anna Vasquez

Anna Vasquez, one of the women known as the “San Antonio Four,” spent 13 years behind bars for a crime that never actually occurred. In 1994, Anna and her three friends were accused of sexually assaulting two minors. The incident was part of the “Satanic Panic,” over a decade of national hysteria over claims of satanic ritual abuse of children. Further, the fact that Anna and her friends had recently come out as gay to their families was used by prosecutors as a motive for the crimes, conflating being gay with being a child predator. On February 14, 1998, Anna was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
