Erica J. Suter is the Director of the University of Baltimore Innocence Project Clinic, a unique collaboration between the Maryland Office of the Public Defender and the University of Baltimore School of Law. Erica joined OPD and UB from private practice where she has been widely recognized as an accomplished appellate and post conviction criminal defense attorney. During the decade that Erica ran her own firm, her advocacy resulted in the reduction of hundreds of years of incarceration; and, separately, the life sentences of 11 of her clients were modified or vacated. She is President-Elect of the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association and is a Council Member of the Criminal Law and Practice Section of the Maryland State Bar Association. She served on the Board of Directors for APABA-DC and as Co-Chair of its Nominations Committee. She earned her JD from Georgetown University, her MA from the University of Chicago, and her BA from Bates College.
