Name
Freedom Parade Kick-Off
Description

Three very special guests—New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians, led by Big Chief “Honey Banister” of the Golden Sioux—will kick off the celebration in the Grand Ballroom and usher attendees to the parade on Canal Street. Mardi Gras Indians (also known as Black Masking Indians) are a deeply rooted part of New Orleans culture, and their rituals feature music, dancing, and elaborate, colorful suits influenced by Native American ceremonial apparel and Caribbean beadwork. There are over 40 Black Masking Indian tribes throughout New Orleans.
