Lessons from the Black Panthers to BLM: Racial Justice Movements, Wrongful Convictions, Police Misconduct, and Reframing Our Concepts of Justice
Description
Racial justice movements focused on police brutality have in turn been targets of heightened law enforcement surveillance. Panelists will discuss how movement leaders have been targeted for prosecution and wrongfully convicted; what we have learned about law enforcement surveillance, prosecutorial misconduct, and political power; and the difficulty of challenging wrongful convictions. They will also talk about how an understanding of the work of racial justice movements can contribute to the work of organizations dedicated to preventing and remedying wrongful convictions.
