Name
Two Steps Forward, One Step Back: SBS/AHT Scientific Advancement and Pushback
Description

Using the framework of the questioned and debunked Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma (SBS/AHT) scientific paradigm, this panel will explore how and why scientific advancement in courts is often followed by attacks and pushback. We will discuss how that pushback affects our advocacy and how to strategize around such efforts, especially given the rapidly shifting landscape of criminal legal reform. Recent and ongoing SBS/AHT innocence cases will be discussed, including Melissa Lucio, Robert Roberson, Andrew Roark, and Darryl Nieves.
