John Butler is the founder of Butler Investigations, a boutique investigation service in Washington, D.C. John began his career at the Civilian Complaint Review Board in New York City, investigating serious police misconduct. He then investigated post-conviction innocence cases as the staff investigator for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project. John also worked as an investigative specialist at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia in the trial division, investigating pre-trial homicide cases. Since founding Butler Investigations, John has worked with a number of Innocence Network member organizations on post-conviction investigations. He also works on civil cases and pre-trial criminal defense investigations.
