John Wixted is a distinguished professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, whose research addresses the mechanisms of human memory. His work focuses on signal-detection models of recognition memory, the neuroscience of memory and amnesia, and eyewitness identification. He served as editor-in-chief of the most recent edition of the Stevens' Handbook of Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience (2018). In addition, he was awarded the Howard Crosby Warren Medal for distinction in contemporary research in experimental psychology in 2011 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2019.
