Mary D. Fan is the Jack R. MacDonald Endowed Chair at the University of Washington. She is the author of numerous articles and a book about recording the police, Camera Power: Proof, Policing, Privacy, and Audiovisual Big Data (Cambridge University Press). Her research has been cited by federal and state appellate and district court judges and by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Her research and teaching are informed by her experience as a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District of California, and as an associate legal officer at a UN-established international criminal tribunal. She serves on the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union-Washington.
