Dr. Klarich grew up in Michigan. She is a Consultant in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Professor of Medicine, College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She received her medical degree at the College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, University of Michigan Hospital Systems, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Mayo Clinic Rochester. Dr. Klarich maintains an active clinical practice in Cardiology and is board certified in both cardiology and echocardiography. She devotes her laboratory-based time to the Echocardiographic and Hemodynamic Imaging Laboratory where she is an experienced echocardiographer participating in all aspects of the lab – stress echocardiography, transesophageal echo, intraoperative and interventional echo practice. Her clinical practice is in Structural Heart Disease, Cardiomyopathy clinic and the Valvular Heart Disease Clinic. Her primary clinical research interests revolve around cardiac tumors, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and valvular heart disease.
Dr. Klarich devotes a substantial part of her career to the educational mission; she has held several educational leadership appointments during her career. She is actively engaged in education for all levels of learners. Dr. Klarich served as the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program from 2002-2008, followed by being the Cardiology Fellowship Program Director from 2010-2018. Dr. Klarich was co-director of the Circulation Block, Mayo Medical Alix School of Medicine and has been a core faculty member since 2000. She is consistently involved in continuing medical education programs and the cardiovascular professional society meetings, delivering educational content. Recently 1/31/23, Dr. Klarich stepped down as Vice Chair of Clinical Practice in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and accepted her current role as Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.
Dr. Klarich is married to her husband Mark and has two adult daughters, Kathryn and Amelia. Her free time is preferentially spent with her family and friends, taking long walks with her dog Koda, playing golf, rollerblading, hiking, cycling, skiing on water or snow, traveling and relaxing by a fire with friends or a delightful book.
