Race and the Jury: How Jury Discrimination Drives Wrongful Conviction and What We're Doing About It
Description
The jury is a central feature of our system of justice, but it is also a place from which people of color have been routinely excluded. Panelists will discuss the many ways people of color have been kept off of juries or have had their voices diluted when they were present. They will explain the importance of diverse juries to preventing wrongful convictions. They will also explore new approaches to ensuring racial and ethnic diversity on juries, from strengthening protections against the discriminatory use of peremptory strikes to getting rid of peremptory strikes altogether.
