Meredith Angelson is the Director of the Unjust Punishment Project (UPP) at Innocence Project New Orleans. The project has successfully freed more than 20 people serving life sentences since its creation in 2020. UPP was also awarded the 2023 Emil Gumpert Award from the American College of Trial Lawyers for its innovative parole representation program. Meredith formerly worked at the Southern Poverty Law Center's New Orleans office as a Senior Staff Attorney in criminal justice reform and as a Staff Attorney at the Orleans Public Defenders. She clerked for Judge Robert Sweet of the Southern District of New York. She is a graduate of New York University School of Law and Yale College.
