Valerie Newman has been the Director of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) since its inception in November of 2017. The Wayne County CIU is the 30th such unit in the country, designed to prevent mistakes in prosecution and look into possible wrongful convictions. Newman is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and has argued hundreds of cases, including two before the United States Supreme Court.
