Name
Breaking the Intake Backlog
Description

For most innocence organizations, the need for services far exceeds the resources and capacity we have to assist. As a result, case backlogs are a common occurrence at all stages of this work. This interactive panel will first provide a brief overview of the intake processes of three innocence organizations, before delving into the issue of case backlogs at all stages of case evaluation. Each panel member will provide a unique perspective on how their organization has worked to reduce and/or eliminate backlogs utilizing creative solutions, including pausing, or otherwise closing intake and/or screening; implementing more stringent case acceptance criteria at intake; implementing more stringent case acceptance criteria at screening; and adjusting time and resources spent on administrative work. This session will be organized to foster interaction, offer practical advice, and equip attendees with actionable steps for avoiding, reducing, and eliminating backlogs.
