Lisa D. Earnhardt

Executive Vice President and Group President, Medical Devices

Lisa Earnhardt is Abbott’s Executive Vice President and Group President, Medical Devices. She was appointed to this role in December 2023.

Previously, Lisa served as Abbott’s Executive Vice President, Medical Devices since 2019.
Lisa came to Abbott from Intersect ENT, where she had served as President and Chief 
Executive Officer since 2008. 

Prior to Intersect, Lisa was President of Boston Scientific’s Cardiac Surgery division. 

Earlier in her career, at both Boston Scientific and Guidant, Lisa had extensive experience 
leading global product launches and driving adoption of new medical technologies.

She began her career at APM/CSC Healthcare, where she provided management consulting 
services to healthcare provider organizations. 

Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and her 
Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of 
Management, where she serves on the Advisory Board

Safi Bahcall, PhD

Safi is a physicist, a former public-company CEO, a biotechnology entrepreneur, and author of the international bestseller Loonshots.

He received his BA from Harvard summa cum laude, completed his PhD in physics at Stanford, and served for three years as a consultant at McKinsey and Company. In 2001, Safi founded a biotechnology company developing new drugs for serious medical conditions. He led its IPO, served as its CEO for 13 years, and was named a New England Biotechnology Entrepreneur of the Year. The company, now valued at over $10 billion, received the first FDA approval for a drug to treat MASH(fatty liver disease).

Safi’s book, Loonshots, an instant WSJ bestseller, shows how phase changes in group behavior can help explain the rise and fall of companies and nations. It has been translated into 21 languages and was the #1 most recommended book by CEOs and entrepreneurs in Bloomberg’s annual survey. It was selected as a Financial Times, Forbes, and Washington Post best business book of the year, and has been recommended by Bill Gates, Daniel Kahneman, Malcolm Gladwell, and many others.

Safi worked with President Obama’s council of science advisors (PCAST) on the future of national research, and has presented on strategy and innovation to leadership teams at Amazon, the CIA, Goldman Sachs, Google, Microsoft, the US Army, the US Navy, Walmart, and others, as well as business schools and science, mathematics, or medical departments at Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Caltech, Cornell, MGH, and the NIH. He continues to advise, invest in, and help launch new technology companies, and is working on his next project, which brings together physics, economics, and markets. He lives with his wife and three children in Washington, DC.
