In 2022, the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund experienced exponential growth in CDFI-certified financial institutions (as of January 2023, there were 483 CDFI-certified credit unions.) During this current pause in certification applications, CURE notifications, and anticipating upcoming changes to the CDFI Fund, we will reflect on the past several years of momentum in the CDFI industry, the roles credit unions have played, and their future roles and opportunities in the credit union movement.
