Street and lot closures  
Be aware of temporary street closures near Peace Plaza. Saint Marys Lot 33 will also be closed temporarily to host the event, from the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Sept. 16.
  
Shuttles, park-and-ride lots  
We highly recommend using the employee shuttle service to make your way downtown. The newer Southeast Shuttle Lot (Lot 77), near Marcus Theaters at 200 45th St. SE, will have the most capacity.  

In addition, Rochester Public Transit has three park-and-ride lots that provide express service to downtown. Mayo Clinic staff can park in these lots and ride the bus at no charge — simply show your access identification card when you board.  
  
Free ramp access after 4 p.m.  
If you're attending the event downtown, you can park in the City of Rochester's parking ramps for free after 4 p.m.   

Walk-in flu and COVID-19 vaccines will be available at the Saint Marys Employee Cafeteria from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In addition, a small number of appointment-only vaccinations will be available at the Plummer Building. You can schedule your appointment online. There will be no walk-ins at this site.

If you don't get your vaccinations at the event, check out where the Occupational Health Services vaccination tour is heading next. Vaccination events run through Nov. 14 at locations on the downtown and Saint Marys campuses and the 41st Street Professional Building.

As part of our ongoing dedication to patient, employee, and community well-being, a portion of the event will support charitable initiatives aimed at improving access to healthcare, enhancing patient care, as well as supporting our local Rochester community. There will be several activities you will be able to participate in to contribute to the following charities:

• Channel One Regional Food Bank
• Ronald McDonald House

Complimentary food and beverages will be served from 11 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

Menu 

• Fajita chicken bowl – Slow-roasted carnitas-style chicken served over fragrant cilantro-lime rice, paired with a hearty blend of fajita-seasoned black beans, fire-roasted corn, and sautéed peppers and onions. Enjoy crispy corn tortilla chips served with a side of roasted salsa verde and sour cream.  
• Three-layer strawberry shortcake – This decadent dessert features layers of moist vanilla cake, sweet strawberry jam, and light whipped frosting for the perfect finishing touch.  

Dietary Restrictions 
A tent at each location will have specialty meals for those with dietary restrictions (i.e., Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Halal and Kosher). A chef will be available in this tent for additional questions related to dietary restrictions.

As we come together to celebrate at our upcoming appreciation events, let's also take a moment to express our gratitude for one another. 

Staff who send an Above and Beyond Recognition or e-card by Sept. 18 can choose a Mayo Clinic-branded technology organizer or travel kit as a token of appreciation. Read the details. 

If you recognize a colleague by Sept. 18, you can pick up your gift at the Recognition Program tent and will be entered into a grand prize drawing.  

If you don't collect your gift at the event, you will receive an email with instructions on how to have your gift mailed to your home address.    

Complete a Values Challenge before the All-Staff Appreciation Event and receive a special jar of Sister Generose’s famous pickles, recreated in her honor.

As we count down to the All-Staff Appreciation Event on Sept. 15, take a few minutes to celebrate the values that connect us while remembering the remarkable legacy of Sister Generose Gervais. This year, employees can choose a challenge: complete a Mayo Clinic Values Crossword Puzzle or Values Word Search before the event. Both activities offer a fun way to test your knowledge and reflect on the values that guide how we work together, care for one another and serve our patients. 

Choose Your Challenge

Download either the Values Crossword Puzzle or Values Word Search and complete it on your own or with coworkers in the days leading up to the celebration. Once completed, bring your printed puzzle or simply take a photo of it on your phone. Then, stop by the Professionalism and Values tent on September 15 and show your completed activity to receive a special jar of Sister Generose’s famous pickles, recreated in her honor.

A Special Tribute to Sister Generose

For many years, Sister Generose made her famous pickles for the annual Sisters’ Sale, which raised funds to support the Poverello Fund at Mayo Clinic. The fund helps patients in need of financial assistance with hospital charges—a purpose that reflected Sister Generose’s deep commitment to serving others and putting the needs of patients first.

While Sister Generose’s pickles are no longer available today, they are being specially recreated for this year’s All-Staff Appreciation Event in her honor, giving employees an opportunity to experience a small piece of her legacy while learning more about the values she embodied.

Throughout her life and leadership, Sister Generose demonstrated service, compassion and an unwavering commitment to Mayo Clinic’s primary value:

This September, celebrate the values that continue to connect us and honor a legacy that helped shape Mayo Clinic. Choose your challenge. Complete it before Sept. 15. Then stop by the Professionalism and Values tent to receive this special tribute to Sister Generose.

Clues will be provided on the day of the event that lead to a golden hard hat and surprise prize (one at each campus).
