In this session, veteran New York City Conviction Review/Integrity Unit chiefs – all of whom have previous experience representing applicants for review – discuss best practices for running, applying to, and working with Conviction Review/Integrity Units. The panel will field questions from moderator, Jabbar Collins, who litigated his way out of prison without the aid of a review unit. The session aims to share with current practitioners on the government side important lessons learned and strategies developed while running some of the country's most successful review units. At the same time, the session will offer practical advice to applicants and their advocates on how best to approach review units and what they can do (and not do) to assist the units in completing their review as quickly and efficiently as possible.
